Compared to that, Hillary Clinton’s music video doesn’t seem quite so horrible anymore.

Have you ever stopped to think how bizarre some of our customs and traditions are? And why they are the way they are and not different?

I’m not just talking about the odd tradition of pretending that a bunny brings and then hides a bunch of colored eggs. Why is it perfectly acceptable to stick your finger in your ear, but if you stick your finger up your nose, you’re a social outcast?

Why do people feel the need to yell “Gesundheit!” or “God bless you!” from 2 rooms away when you sneeze, but nobody says a word when you cough?

Why are soldiers, who kill people for money, considered heroes - while prostitutes, who make people feel good for money, are considered human garbage?

And how are professional athletes, models and actresses different from prostitutes? Do they not sell their bodies for money as well?

And how come actors and court jesters were just one step above beggars in medieval times, but today they are idolized as pop culture royalty?

I wonder how many people really had to do that this year.

I went to a few different stores, not really expecting to be able to get it, but as luck would have it the Walmart in Milford, PA had just gotten a PS3 shipment minutes before I graced that store with my presence. Giddy with excitement, I brought it home only to be confronted with the reality that there really aren’t any good games out for the PS3 yet.

Basically I spent $600 for a box that was just going to stand around and collect dust until they finally release something worth playing. Bummer.

All the games that looked like fun were for the Xbox 360. Crap. So, what do you do? Well, I don’t know what YOU would do, but I grabbed all my old consoles (2 original Xbox, a Dreamcast and Playstation 2) and brought it to Hollywood Video. They sell and trade in video games, and they just happen to have a special promotion where they give you twice as much for an old console trade-in if you buy the Xbox 360.

Once they rang up my old consoles and the bag full of games I brought, I basically got the Xbox 360 for free. Suu-wweet!

I’ve been playing Tomb Raider Legends, Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle Earth II and FIFA Soccer on the Xbox 360 for the past few days. I haven’t even touched the Playstation 3. I hope they’ll come out with some good PS3 games soon.

I was walking my dog along the beach here in New York. The Belt Parkway runs along the shore and there was a highway bridge near the beach where I walk the dog.

We had just passed under the bridge when I heard screaming. I turned around and looked up. I saw two people running along the bridge. The second one was screaming while chasing the first one.

Several things went through my mind all at once. First I thought it was two people kidding around. Then I thought the second person was trying to beat up the first one. Then I thought the whole thing was just some silly scene from a movie they were shooting on the bridge. Seeing a movie being shot in New York is not all that unusual.

But then the first guy threw himself head first over the railing and smashed into the ground less than 50 feet from where I was standing. As I later read in the paper, the guy who committed suicide was in his 20s and he had had some sort of mental problems. Manic depression or something like that. The second person on the bridge was his father who had tried to stop him from jumping.

The young man’s name was Titus. Apparently he and his parents had driven to New York from Washington, to visit some relatives for the holidays. During heavy stop-and-go traffic, Titus suddenly decided to jump out of the car and throw himself off the bridge.

After he landed on the ground in front of me, he was still breathing. His father came running down and a bunch of people got out of their cars and stared down from the bridge. Someone called an Ambulance and they picked Titus up a few minutes later.

The paper reported that he died in the Ambulance, on the way to the hospital.

I’ve seen lots of people die on TV. People get shot, people jump, people get disemboweled. When you see those images on TV they don’t really phaze you. But when something like that happens in real life, right in front of your face, it’s like someone kicks you in the gut. I was stunned. I couldn’t believe I was staring right at him as his body hurled towards the ground and landed with a muffled thud.

Anyway, that was my Saturday afternoon. Just another typical New York day. You never know what will happen when you go for a walk here.
